Integrated Pest Management Application on May 3rd.

Dear Parent, Guardian or Staff Member:

Public Acts 91-0099 and 91-0525 mandate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Illinois public schools.  IPM manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property and the environment; including judicious use of pesticides.  In this context, “pesticide” includes insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide, and fungicide.
IPM provides parents/guardians or staff members with prior notice of herbicide application.  Please be aware that on (5/03/2015), weather permitting, a fertilization and weed control application (LockUp Extra with Fertilizer) will applied to the turf areas (including courtyards) at (Neuqua Valley High School and the Birkett Freshman Center). We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment.  All are approved for school use, and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance. Typically, this application will not present a health concern to students or staff.  However, it is the intent of IPM to allow those with special sensitivity to take appropriate precautions:  in the case of children, as determined by a parent or guardian.

If you have further questions, please call my office at (630)428-6580.

Class of 2016 Students Earn Perfect ACT Score

Very few students get a perfect ACT score, even those who get into the country's top colleges. In fact, anyone scoring a 34, 35 or 36 is among the top 1% of test-takers in the country. We would like to congratulate the following Class of 2016 students on achieving a perfect ACT score of 36: Natasha Gupta, Jennifer Lies, Sarvasva Raghuvanshi. Both Natasha and Sarvasva scored a 36 on a Fall 2014 ACT and the March 2015 ACT test.

Neuqua 2015 Final Exam Schedule

1.    DURING EXAMS:  ALL classes, including Physical Education, will have a Final Exam and meet on the scheduled exam day.  All exam periods are 95 minutes in length.  Students are required to be on time for the exam.  If a student arrives late, he or she may be sent to the Class House to study and will have to return at 1:15 p.m. for the Makeup Exam Period with his or her teacher.  Make up Exams will be 1:15-2:45 on Thursday and Friday and 10:55-12:30 on Monday.
2.    Students are expected to take ALL exams during their scheduled time.  If a student is ill on the day of the exam, parents should call the appropriate House to report the absence AND make contact with the teacher of the course to schedule a makeup exam.
3.    Students are not required to be in attendance during their Lunch/Option period; however Quiet Study will be accommodated in several locations at Main and Birkett Freshman Center. Also, students will be expected to stay in their exam rooms for the entire exam period, even if they finish early.  Students should bring other material to study to use their time wisely.
4.    TRANSPORTATION: Morning buses will pick up and drop off students at school at the regular time. Buses will leave after the last test period of the day and depart at approximately 12:35pm.
5.   ATTENDANCE: NVHS strongly discourages pre-planned absences during exams. Parents requesting an extended absence which includes final exam week must submit their request IN WRITING to the school Principal.  Students may pick up the Pre-Planned Absence Form in the Class House and attach the letter from the parents before bringing it to the Main Office.  If the requested absence during finals weeks is approved, the student must arrange with each of his/her teachers to make up exams.

Safety and Security at Neuqua Valley

Safety and Security are a part of everyone’s job at Neuqua Valley.  Please share with your student how important it is that students exit only authorized doors at the Main Building or Birkett Freshman Center during the school day.  With the warm weather, we have noticed an increase in students using unauthorized exits.  Neuqua Valley is a closed campus, and students exiting unauthorized doors during school hours will receive disciplinary consequences.  Before school, students may enter the Main Building through Doors 19, 1, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, and 46.  These doors cover the East and West sides of the Main Building as well as the back of the building for buses.  Before school at the Birkett Center, students may enter Doors 1, 16, and 17.  During the school day and at the end of a student’s day, students may exit the following doors at the Main Building: Door 1 (Main Entrance), Door 46 (Athletics), and Door 19 (period 7 and 8 only).  During the school day at the Birkett Center, students may only exit Door 1.  In the case of an emergency situation, students and staff would use all of the exits available at both buildings per our emergency procedures.  Thank you for your support on this important issue.

As always, the show features original student writing performed by the authors themselves.  Some of the pieces are serious and some are silly, but it's a great opportunity to be entertained and made aware of what's on our students' minds.  They might surprise you with their candor, skill, and sincerity.
