Integrated Pest Management Notification

INDIAN PRAIRIE COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT #204
Indian Prairie School District 204
3003 West 103rd Street
Naperville, IL 60564

Dear Parent, Guardian or Staff Member:

Public Acts 91-0099 and 91-0525 mandate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Illinois public schools.  IPM manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property and the environment; including judicious use of pesticides.  In this context, “pesticide” includes insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide, and fungicide.

IPM provides parents/guardians or staff members with prior notice of a herbicide application. Please be aware that on Thursday August 29, and Friday 30, 2019, weather permitting, a weed control application will applied to the mulched areas, courtyards, islands, fenced areas, fence lines, playground cracks, and crevices and bleacher pads at Neuqua Valley High School and Freshmen campus property.

Please also be aware that on Thursday, August 29, 2019, weather permitting, a weed control application will be applied to the Varsity and Lower Level Baseball Fields at Neuqua Valley High School property.

These applications will be a “Post-Emergent”. We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment. All are approved for school use, and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance. Typically, this application will not present a health concern to students or staff. However, it is the intent of IPM to allow those with special sensitivity to take appropriate precautions: in the case of children, as determined by a parent or guardian.

If you have further questions, please call my office at (630)428-6005.

Sincerely,
Andrew Weed

It's Almost Time for Operation Snowball!

Operation Snowball is a fun, engaging and popular youth leadership development program. 360 Youth Services partners with Districts 203 & 204 to coordinate this teen-led and adult supported program for area high school students.

Presented in a weekend retreat format in a safe and respectful environment, the program addresses challenges facing teens which help:
  • Increase self-awareness
  • Strengthen positive coping skills
  • Enhance self-confidence
  • Expand decision-making skills, especially regarding drugs and alcohol
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Enhance respect for self and others
  • Refine personal goals and values
  • Strengthen communication strategies
  • Expand leadership abilities
Presentations, workshops, activities and small group discussions all combine to empower teens to make healthy lifestyle decisions and have a positive impact on their peers. The name comes from the idea that “If I have a positive impact on you, you can have a positive impact on someone else, and the effect Snowballs”. The program began as a teen and adult led alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse prevention program, and has expanded into a program that addresses many additional issues relevant to teens today.

Sign-ups for the Fall 2019 Retreat will begin on Monday, September 9, 2019. The retreat will take place October 25, 2019 through October 27, 2019. For more information, Contact DeAngelo Gerald or Carolyn Marple in the Senior Class House.
