Science Olympiad! We're Going to STATE!

On March 2, Neuqua Valley hosted one of 10 Science Olympiad Regionals across Illinois. This is the qualifying competition for the State tournament. Science Olympiad is 100% aligned with NGSS on all levels and is a great team competition that promotes teamwork/collaboration as well as scientific reasoning and lab/engineering practices. This Regional had special meaning to us this year. In addition to all three D204 high schools competing, 6 of our 7 middle schools (Gregory, Hill, Still, Scullen, Granger, and Fischer) entered teams at both the Varsity and JV levels-over 230 D204 middle schoolers and over 120 D204 high school students competed in 23 events at the Regional! Teams that won a bid to the State Tournament: 1st Place - Neuqua Valley 2nd Place - Lyons Township High School 3rd Place - Metea Valley 4th Place - Waubonsie Valley 5th Place - Naper Valley Home School First-year competitors from Scullen Middle School won 8th place in the Middle School Division B division (and a bid to the STATE tournament!) and Gregory Middle School trailed them taking 9th place! Granger competed for the 2nd year in a row and making their inaugural debut were Hill, Still, and Fischer. Over 90 Neuqua Valley science students volunteered to help with registration, concessions, event supervisors/helpers and handing out awards. Thank you to our talented district Coaches for supporting our students throughout the season and to Paula Mueller, Dr. Mike Fuys, Tony Tagtmeyer, and Linda Wilkins at NVHS for their leadership in hosting this event for area students!
