Integrated Pest Management Notification

INDIAN PRAIRIE COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT #204

Indian Prairie School District 204

3003 West 103rd Street

Naperville, IL 60564
Dear Parent, Guardian or Staff Member
Public Acts 91-0099 and 91-0525 mandate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Illinois public schools. IPM manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment; including judicious use of pesticides. In this context, “pesticide” includes insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide, and fungicide.
IPM provides parents/guardians or staff members with prior notice of herbicide application. Please be aware that on Wednesday, March 29 and Thursday, March 30, 2017, weather permitting, a weed control application will be applied to the mulched areas including the courtyards, fenced areas, fence lines (athletic fields) and bleacher pads at Neuqua Valley High School. This application will be a “Pre-Emergent and Spot Treatment” (T/I 2.5G and Stonewall). We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment. All are approved for school use and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance. Typically, this application will not present a health concern to students or staff. However, it is the intent of IPM to allow those with special sensitivity to take appropriate precautions: in the case of children, as determined by a parent or guardian.
If you have further questions, please call my office at (630)428-6005.
Sincerely,
Andrew Weed

March 2017 High School Parents Use Your Power Newsletter

Parents of High School Students: Parents often take becoming independent to mean that their teen must “separate” from them and give in to peer influence. A more realistic, healthy and developmentally appropriate way to view autonomy is to see it as the parent and the teen figuring out together a new relationship which is based on the teen becoming more mature. March’s Power of Choice newsletter looks at ways a parent can help their teens to become more independent.
