The Power of Choice November Newsletter

Marijuana refers to the dried leaves, flowers, stems and seeds from the hemp plant, cannabis sativa. The plant contains the mind-altering chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and other dangerous chemicals and can be laced with pesticides. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. Legalization of marijuana in a growing number of states may affect perception that marijuana use is risky.

Integrated Pest Management Notification - Monday, November 16th

Dear Parent, Guardian or Staff Member: (11/09/2015)

Public Acts 91-0099 and 91-0525 mandate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Illinois public schools. IPM manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property and the environment; including judicious use of pesticides. In this context, “pesticide” includes insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide, and fungicide.

IPM provides parents/guardians or staff members with prior notice of herbicide application. Please be aware that on Monday, November 16, 2015, weather permitting, a weed control application will be applied to all courtyards and The Varsity Baseball Field, at (Neuqua Valley High School and Kathryn J. Birkett Freshman Center). This application will be a “Pre-Emergent”. We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment. All are approved for school use and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance. Typically, this application will not present a health concern to students or staff. However, it is the intent of IPM to allow those with special sensitivity to take appropriate precautions: in the case of children, as determined by a parent or guardian.

If you have further questions, please call my office at (630)428-6580.

Sincerely,
Ismael Carrizales
District Grounds Manager
Indian Prairie School District #204
