Lab School for Science & Technology High School Summer Courses Registration

LSST High School Summer Courses
Location: Neuqua Valley High School

PHYSICS: Motion and Forces (Freshman/Sophomore) – SESSION A
This is an introductory course in physics for early high school students. This course will cover motion and forces in a way that is accessible to students that have only been introduced to high school mathematics. Students will be engaged through experiments and guided questioning as they learn physics concepts and problem solving.
Prerequisite: Algebra I
June 30 – July 29; 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm; Monday – Thursday

PHYSICS: Motion and Forces (Junior/Senior) – SESSION B
This is an introductory course in physics for later high school students. This course will cover motion and forces with an emphasis on mathematical problem solving. Students will be engaged through experiments and guided questioning as they learn physics concepts and problem solving.
Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry
June 30 – July 29; 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm; Monday – Thursday

Biochemical Design through Drug-Delivery Systems (Freshman-Senior)
In this course, students will be introduced to the biological and chemical aspects of various drug delivery systems. Students will research, design and conduct an experiment as it relates to drug delivery in medicine. Biodegradable alginate capsules will be made and used as an analogy to a drug delivery system currently being researched at the nano-scale. The students will experiment with the time-release properties of these capsules and present their findings. Required: laptop computer
July 14 – 24; 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm; Monday – Thursday
July 28 – August 7; 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm; Monday – Thursday

Computer Modeling (Freshman-Senior)
In this course students will learn how to model by building a number of different models in a variety of different fields such as physical, ecological, environmental, financial, engineering, and data analysis applications. They will use the models they have built to gain insight into the application being modeled and to evaluate the accuracy of their models. Students will also build their own simulation game by working with algorithm animation. Required: laptop computer with Excel
July 28 - 31; 8:00 am - 2:00 pm; Monday – Thursday
