1st Semester Final Exam Schedule

  NEUQUA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
2013-14 Final Exam Bell Schedule and Details

1.    DURING EXAMS:  ALL classes, including Physical Education, will have a Final Exam and meet on the scheduled exam day.  All exam periods are 90 minutes in length and are preceded by a 45 minute class period.  Students are required to be on time for the class period and the exam.  If a student arrives late, he or she may be sent to the Class House to study and will have to return at 1:15 p.m. for the Makeup Exam Period with his or her teacher.  Test Makeup Period will be 1:15-2:45 each exam day.
2.    Students are expected to take ALL exams during their scheduled time.  If a student is ill on the day of the exam, parents should call the appropriate House to report the absence AND make contact with the teacher of the course to schedule a makeup exam. Test Make-up Period will be 1:15-2:45 each exam day.
3.    Students are not required to be in attendance during their Lunch/Option period; however Quiet Study will be accommodated in several locations at Main and Gold. Also, students will be expected to stay in their exam rooms for the entire exam period, even if they finish early.  Students should bring other material to study to use their time wisely.
4.    TRANSPORTATION: Morning buses will pick up and drop off students at school at the regular time. Buses will leave after the last test period of the day and depart at approximately 12:35pm.
5.   ATTENDANCE: NVHS strongly discourages pre-planned absences during exams. Parents requesting an extended absence which includes final exam week must submit their request IN WRITING to the school Principal.  Students may pick up the Pre-Planned Absence Form in the Class House and attach the letter from the parents before bringing it to the Main Office.  If the requested absence during finals weeks is approved, the student must arrange with each of his/her teachers to make up exams.

Senior Spectacular 2014 Planning Meeting

The first planning meeting for Senior Spectacular is November 25 at 7 pm in the Forum Room (main campus) at 7 pm. Senior Spectacular 2014 is a lock in party for the 2014 Senior Class. This party is designed to be a final celebration for the entire class in a supervised environment. It will be held at Neuqua Valley on April 12 from 7 pm to 1 am. It is completely parent planned with support on the night of the event from the school staff. To make this awesome event possible there are 30 committees that work from November through clean up of the event on April 13. Committees consist of food service, decorating, volunteer coordination, carnival games, salon, photo booth, and booking experts in hand writing analysing and caricature drawing. Committee chairs are filled on a first come basis! All parents of Neuqua Valley students are invited to help. If you do not want to head a committee we also need help planning and on the weekend of the event. This event requires 250+ parents to help set up, volunteer during the event, and clean up.

Please share this information with any Neuqua Valley parent and join our Facebook group Senior Spectacular 2014 for the most up to date information.

Email Becky Glimco at beckyglimco@aol.com with questions and to volunteer. Please indicate if you are interested in a committee chair position or as a volunteer on the weekend of the event.

One Book One School Program

Ladies and gentlemen, readers of all ages, welcome to Neuqua's One Book One School program!
Time Magazine called John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars an “instant classic.”  The New York Times called it “sweet, philosophical, and funny.” The Neuqua Valley Echo says it’s “stellar”!

Find out why so many Americans are talking about the story of Hazel and Augustus, two star-crossed teens who met in a cancer support group.  Readers are welcome to join us in January for a discussion with students, parents, social workers, and teachers (stay tuned for details).  Please, contact the NVHS LMC with any questions.

Veterans Honor Garden at Neuqua Valley

A new veterans honor garden at Neuqua Valley High School paying tribute to the school's military alumni will be officially dedicated at a public ceremony over Veteran's Day Weekend, Sunday, November 10 at 3:00pm. Officials attending /participating at the dedication ceremony include Naperville's Mayor George Pradel, US Congressman Bill Foster, State Senator Michael Connelly and State Representative Darlene Senger.

Ethan Koska, a sophomore at Neuqua Valley High School, chose to create an honor garden as his Eagle Scout Project. Ethan, who aspires to become a Navy Seal after graduation, did much research and planning before the work of digging and planting began in June.
"My intention is for people to visit this place and be able to reflect on their freedoms and thank those who have heard the call to serve our Nation. Every plant, tree, shrub and object in this Garden were especially chosen for their symbolism."
Ethan Koska
The construction of the Honor Garden Project is the result of a group effort that included teammates from wrestling, girls from the basketball team, Boy Scouts from Troop 597, as well as, family and friends. They all gladly pitched in and labored over this past summer to create an everlasting tribute to Neuqua Valley's military alumni. Through the generosity of family, community and business donations such as, Operation Welcome You Home, The Naperville Exchange Club, BMO/ Harris Bank and Likes Landscaping, as well as Ethan's own fundraising efforts the Honor Garden was completed in August with the installment of the limestone markers representing the five military branches.
A flag that flew over the US Capitol, donated by US Congressman Randy Hultgren, will be flown briefly during the dedication before finding its permanent display at the high school.
"The support of our Military Heroes from a young [soon to be] Eagle Scout- Ethan Koska, is truly a demonstration of what true American Patriotism is!"
Donna Morosovillo
Founder of Operation Welcome You Home
